KENPO KARATE

Karate Self Defence

Known the world over as “The Mighty Weapon of the Empty Hand” and introduced extensively after world war two in the pacific karate became first popular in Japan in the year 1910, when Grand Master “Gichin Funakoshi” brought the art of unarmed combat to main land Japan from the islands of Sanchin in the South China Sea, and a more scientific form of the art from the island of Okinawa.

Of the many formidable martial art forms practiced by various schools in the last century no
particular style has ruled prominence or held sway (that it is the best or greatest).

Japan down the centuries has always been renowned for its perfection in the martial arts; be it the knights of the “Bushido”. The “Samurai” or the legendary “Ninja”.

Karate empowers the student to be through in discipline, respect to the masters and to take on life as a challenge, for a Karateka always belieyes in the motto “It's the struggle not the triumph”.

In the early 1970's, the martial arts spread rapidly world wide taking its history and origin from China, Japan and Korea and further promoted and influenced by movies and TV serials.

Today in India, karate has found a unique place in the hearts and minds of thousands of people, by instilling in them self confidence, discipline at work and a positive approach to take every obstacle in their stride with determination and perceptiveness.

KENPO Karate Do India had its humble beginning in September 1969, under the tutelage of grand master MERUSAN then a student under “Hanshi Mitose”, founder of the World Kenpo Foundation along with “Renshi ED Parker", founder member of the “World Karate Federation".

In recognition of the dedication and selfless service rendered to the promotion of karate, The Karnataka Karate Association in 1996 made grand master MERUSAN its president.

Today Karnataka is in the forefront in self defence karate, being taught in over five hundred institutions and schools including elite army commandos and special forces.
